I have always been fascinated by other people’s life stories. I worked as a cosmetologist for more than 10 years… owning my own hair shop for most of that time. The job was a way of using my creativity, but one of my favorite parts was getting to hear my clients’ stories!
Fast-forward many years... being innkeepers at the bed and breakfast… I love most all parts of this job, but my absolute favorite is getting to know more about people! In most cases the guests are quick to share their stories with us too.
Young and old alike just want to have someone listen to the story of their life… what has brought them to this point… the good, the bad, and sometimes the ugly!
When I worked as a hairstylist, I often joked that as soon as people sat down in my chair they would open their mouth and “spill their guts.” Bartenders and hairdressers hear it all!
So recently, I undertook a new adventure… it was not really in my plan, but when the opportunity presented itself… I just felt so compelled by the idea behind this company.
This is not turning into an infomercial! Have you heard of Origami Owl? It is a company that sells, what I like to call, storytelling jewelry. My younger sister has been a Origami Owl Independent Designer for a few years now, so… I also became an Origami Owl Independent Designer.
Here is what intrigued me about this company… first the O2 (Origami Owl) mission statement:
to be a FORCE FOR GOOD; to LOVE, INSPIRE + MOTIVATE women of all ages to reach their DREAMS + EMPOWER them to make a difference in the lives of others
I get that this is a business and of course they are looking to make money, but these words… GOOD, LOVE, INSPIRE, MOTIVATE, DREAMS, EMPOWER… it just matches up with the life I have been called to live for the Lord.
O2 has beautiful, well-made jewelry, but I love that each person can customize most of the pieces to tell their own story.
I believe, originally the Living Lockets were where it all started… you can pick the charms to show your story in your Locket or maybe Stardust Crystals to add a little sparkle to your story. I see my Living Lockets as a great way to share my story with others without speaking a word.
A favorite new necklace of mine comes from the Empowerment Collection. There are four different necklaces. The one I chose with my starting order is a curved bar with CZ in gold… it is a beautiful necklace, but the best part to me… the words engraved on the edge, “I Will Persevere”. No one will probably ever see that message on edge of my necklace, but I know it’s there! It is a reminder for me of where I’ve been, where I’m at, and where I’m going… my story, just for me!
The other necklaces in this collection are: the Heart… I Am Enough; the Circle… I Am Fearless; and the Chevron… I Am Strong.
Which one of these speaks to your heart… tells your own personal story?
Have you read the Book of Esther in the Bible? Esther is one of my favorite women in the Bible! It is not a long book… give it a read.
I love that Esther’s story is part of the story of the Messiah… if it wasn’t for Esther’s willingness to be used by the Lord, we would never even know who Esther was. But… God used this ordinary young woman to do great things for Him!
Don’t you want your story to be a part of His-story too? I know I do!
…And who knows whether you have not come… for such a time as this? ~ Esther 4:14b
My prayer is that whatever I do… wherever my story takes me… may it only bring Him glory! Lord, Let my story bring You glory!
In His Grace, Carin
