I know it has been a looooong while since I’ve stopped in to chat, BUT… today seemed like a good day to do just that!
I want to tell you about my Momma… today is her 84th birthday! I am so thankful she is still here with us! The past few years have been hard, but especially the last 10 months have been very trying and at times very scary!
Today, however… I want to tell you of the Momma that raised me, my 2 sisters, and even some “foster” kids.
Mom was so talented… she was a seamstress for hire and of course she made us girls beautifully handmade clothes (ever though we wanted store bought). She always made sure we had what we needed. She taught us the value of things, but never wanted us to go without.
She has always been a safe place to go, where I always felt loved and cared for.
She could always light up the room with her smile.
Mom and Dad both instilled in us what it meant to live by faith and follow Jesus. She sang special music often in church. She taught Sunday School for years… she was my SS teacher for most of my years from 7 y.o. through my teen years. Misbehaved kids could drive Mom crazy, but she always showed them love (give them a smile and a piece of candy 😉). I remember in church… it would only take a look from my Momma to know I’d better straighten up or I was in big trouble when I get home!!!
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!~2 Corinthians 9:15
Mom loved to craft… she says my sisters and I get our craftiness from our Dad, but I know some came from her too! She would make some of the most beautiful greeting cards, along with doing quilling (rolling paper into shapes for you non-crafters).
She really liked to shop too… I know I inherited some of that trait from her. Probably once a month we would make a shopping trip to Bay City or Saginaw for a fun day out. We could always talk Momma into buying us a special treat of some sort! :)
One thing I can remember… or this is how my mind recalls it… Mom always made great food… she prepared meals that were good and it seemed so effortless to me. I was a very picky eater and I never wanted my food to touch on my plate… Momma indulged me in my “foolishness”)! As I got older, she worked out of the home, so she would set ingredients out for my older sister and me to prepare for dinner. I know that was the way I learned to cook!
I could go on and on about things to share with you about Mom… it is bittersweet to remember how things use to be! Aging is not fun! We can’t stay young forever!
Sorry… don’t mean to be a bummer!
Let me tell you something that never changes… even while we age… Sandra Romain will always be my Momma! I will always be thankful for God giving me her to be my Mom! Whatever time any of us have here on earth… we need to live it to the fullest and do our best to never waste a minute of it!
I love you, Momma! Happy Birthday to you!
In His Grace, carin
