Quiet Please

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. ~ John 16:13

My hubby is a big, strong, courageous man… he has done things in his life that would make a good man wimp-out! There is no doubt in my mind he has the heart of a warrior! With that being said, he is very soft-spoken. He is rarely mad or shows real anger… maybe aggravation, but not real anger.

In our 28 years of marriage… he has raised his voice to me once! Yep, ONCE! (Man, I have probably raised my voice probably closer to 2000 times!) Luke understands that quiet confidence can be more efficient.

Like in 1 Kings 19:11-18… the Lord is revealing who He is to Elijah. Verses 11-12…

Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

God has such power and majesty that He could wipe us all out and start from scratch… but He loves us so much that He wants us to choose to love Him back.

He can show His anger and might in violently powerful ways, but He chooses to speak in a small voice many times.

What do you want to draw closer to? A scary, catastrophic event or a loving, peaceful beckon???

I think it takes more power and strength to be in control… to show love and even discipline in a loving way. (I am still working on that one! #LessonsInGrace!)

Yes, I do believe “earthquakes, winds, and fire” are necessary tools at times, but I truly believe Father God wants to draw us to Him out of love.

Let's face it... sometimes life’s circumstances are just plain crappy… but even in that the Lord will use all of it to draw us closer. Don’t let the chaos drive out His voice!

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose. ~ Romans 8:28

The big expressions… shaking, explosions, wind, fire… can be exciting and kind of scary, but it is not where relationships are built… real relationships are built in the quiet… still, small voice.

Lord, I want to be so in tune to You that all it takes is a still, small voice to hear what You are saying to me! (1 Kings 19:12)

Father God is drawing you to Him… do you hear His voice?

In His Grace, Carin
