Not Distracted By the Shiny

“How do I live in the moment with the passion God has placed in my heart?”… that’s a question that occurred to me recently.

We are blessed to run a bed & breakfast… I’m not sure if “run” is the right word for what we do, cuz in the summertime, the heat of our season, it is more like the B&B is running us!

So in the very busy, tourist time in Ludington, Michigan… it is great! I love being busy and taking care of people… making their stay with us all it can be!

But what happens to me when the “season” is over and guests are fewer and farther between?

I have too much time on my hands to think! I know thinking isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it can lead to worried thoughts instead of worthy thought.

Finally, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. ~ Philippians 4:8

It also gives me time to reevaluate where my passion lies!

Did you know that the word Passion in Latin means to suffer? In modern day culture that is not necessarily the meaning most people equate between passion and to suffer. That is where the Passion of Christ comes from… it was a word created to describe the deepest willingness of Christ to suffer for humanity’s good!

So something I am passionate about… opening up my home to others, taking care of others, making others feel pampered and special.

As I was contemplating all this, I had an eye-opening, a-ha moment… the greatest suffering in my life has been never being able to have children! But God has placed the desire in my heart to nurture others. So is it true that the greatest passion will be birthed out of the greatest suffering???

That is a truth I needed to see today!

I have been having thoughts lately about what am I doing to live with passion in this moment! Am I missing it? Am I not fulfilling it?

I’m a planner so I have always had an issue with living in the “now”.

Titus 2:7-8… Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.

Living with integrity! Now! That’s it! No matter what! Figuring out what is right at this moment is all I am asked to do!

Patience is passions best friend! Through it all don’t we want passion that lasts? Having passion though rejected! Passion though suffering! Passion though you feel alone! Passion that possesses your soul!

So let me ask you… What is the greatest suffering you have withstood? Is that where your true passion rests?

If you don’t have an answer to that… ask God to show you more of what that looks like.

As followers of Christ we have the same calling… to share the Good News in a Christ-like way. But we all have our own unique way to fulfill that calling. Do you know yours?

And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise. ~ Hebrews 6:15

We need to remember to let patience become better friends with passion. Be encouraged!

Patience & Passion:

  • ~ Endures hardship… suffering will lead to your mission.

  • ~ Stands against evil… patience waits for the best thing. Don’t let passion follow the “shiny things” for lack of patience.

  • ~ Exposes lies… speaking the Word over your feelings.

  • ~ Proof of life is in the examination (test)… in the testing of your faith, God is waiting to see the outcome of how you handle the circumstances. I’ve often hoped that when my faith is tested I could pass it the first time so I didn’t have to repeat it!

  • ~ Never quits! Live your life in constant worship… BE WILLING!

John 4:23… But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him.

I pray this maybe something you needed today as much as I did!

In His Grace, Carin
